STEADY RAIN AND SLICK SPOTS
We’re kicking off the day with steady rain, so be prepared for wet roads as you head out. Slick spots are possible in some of the higher elevations across the interior, especially on bridges and overpasses, so budget in extra time for your commute and take it slow. Conditions are expected to deteriorate as the day goes on.
TORRENTIAL RAIN & STRONG WIND
By this afternoon, expect the rain to intensify. Torrential downpours are likely, and with it, we’ll see stronger wind gusts. A Flood Watch has been issued from 1:00 PM today through Thursday morning, as rainfall amounts could reach 2-4 inches in some areas. This much rain could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage.
Later this afternoon, the wind will really pick up. A High Wind Warning is in effect for eastern Massachusetts from 3:00 PM today through 1:00 AM Thursday. During this time, we could see wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could cause wind damage and power outages.
For areas inland, a Wind Advisory is in effect, with gusts up to 55 mph possible from 3:00 PM today through 1:00 AM Thursday. Be sure to secure outdoor objects and be mindful of tree limbs and power lines that could come down. We could also see an isolated storm or two later today. This could bring even more intense rain and gusty winds. The evening commute is expected to be a mess, with poor visibility, slick roads, and the possibility of flooded streets in certain spots.
STORM WINDS DOWN OVERNIGHT
Thankfully, the worst of the storm will wind down overnight. Thursday will bring clear skies and cooler temperatures. It will still be a bit blustery with highs in the low 40s, but the sun will be a welcome sight after today’s storm. The cold air really sets in by the end of the week, with highs in the 30s on both Friday and Saturday.
