Rain, snow, and cold... oh, my!

ENJOY THE SEASONABLE WEATHER WHILE YOU CAN

Plan on dry and partly sunny weather today. Highs will reach the low and mid 40s, which are seasonable for mid December. There will be a slight breeze, but nothing too bad.

FRIDAY COATING

Mostly cloudy and cooler conditions will drive the forecast Friday. A few sprinkles and flurries are possible during the day with an onshore breeze (ocean effect). Impacts will be low during the day with no more than a patchy coating.

A distant ocean storm will swing in some additional moisture in the evening, resulting in steadier rain and snow, particularly in southeastern and eastern MA. With dropping nighttime temps, it will become more and more likely the local roads turn slippery and snowy. We’re only looking at an inch or two in most towns east of 495, but a few spots could make it up to 3″. Temperatures along the immediate coast, Cape Cod, and Islands may not be cool enough for much accumulation, but it’s something we’ll have to monitor. A slushy coating-1″ is the most likely situation in those communities.

COLDEST WE’VE SEEN

Arctic air will arrive late week and this weekend, dropping temperatures significantly. An isolated snow shower or flurry is still possible Saturday, though most will be dry with more clouds than sun. Freezing sunshine will dominate Sunday with highs only in the 20s!
