Thousands still without power as storm cleanup continues

BOSTON — Thousands of people are still without power Friday morning after an intense storm barreled through the Bay State, toppling trees and power lines.

Friday, Oct. 18

3:30 p.m.: Power outages drop to 45,000.

12:30 p.m.: Power outages across Massachusetts are now just under 60,000 customers.

9:30 a.m.: Our Boston 25 drone flew over damage in Danvers where we could see downed trees covering a neighborhood.

7:33 a.m.: Barnstable Probate, Family and Superior Courts are closed due to power issues.

6:50 a.m.: A reminder for those using generators during the power outage.

5 a.m.: Over 70,000 customers still don't have power -- and some might not see it restored until Saturday. Several schools are closed again.

Thursday, Oct. 17

11:30 p.m.: MEMA reports around 93,800 people are still in the dark.

9:30 p.m.: Outages have dropped to 103,973, with many residents in the Worcester, Salem, Beverly and Pembroke area reporting they're still in the dark.

North Shore residents have reported they were told power might not be restored until Saturday morning as crews continue to work to remove fallen trees, restore downed wires and clear roads.

School has been canceled for Beverley students due to the power outages.

3 p.m.: Power outages across Mass. now at 148,000.

1:20 p.m.: Power outages dropped from over 200,000 across the state to just over 186,000.

11:15 a.m.: Dedham District Court closed for the day due to power outages.

10:50 a.m.: RMV Service Center in Haverhill is closed for the day due to a power outage.

9:22 a.m.: Courthouses in Barnstable County are closed "until further notice."

9:00 a.m.: 

8:50 a.m.: MEMA says it has activated its State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) to coordinate with utilities, towns and local officials on the cleanup.

8:30 a.m.: 

Amtrak is feeling the impacts as well.

8:23 a.m.:

7:07 a.m.: Here's a look at Danvers:

7 a.m.: 

The MBTA says commuter rail riders should expect "severe delays" on all trains today due to downed wires and trees. Several trains are already running 20-30 minutes late.

They are also asking people to watch out for wet platforms and high winds.

6:32 a.m.: 

Many of the hardest hit areas had recorded wind gusts of at least 80 mph. Provincetown recorded a 90 mph gust overnight.

6:23 a.m.:  The list of School Closings keeps climbing.

5:45 a.m.: 

Many roads on the Cape are blocked by downed trees. The Steamship Authority said portions of Woods Hole Road and Route 28 are impassible. They also said ferry cancellations are likely as high winds are forecasted until around 6 p.m.

5:20 a.m.: 

More school closures are coming in. Marshfield schools will be closed and the town hall will have a two-hour delay in opening.

5:05 a.m.:

Cohasset police said all schools in Cohasset will be closed Thursday due to downed power lines and trees blocking roads.

4:45 a.m.:

4:35 a.m.: 

Several towns are reporting road closures due to downed trees and power lines. Take it slow out there this morning.

Downed trees are everywhere, blocking roads in several towns. Over 195,000 people are currently without power across the state.
