Boston snow storm

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

BOSTON — Boston is digging out from about a foot of snow. This was Mayor Michelle Wu’s first major storm at the helm.

The Mayor’s office told Boston 25 News usually they do a snow emergency for 10 inches and over. This one came in a little over but for the most part residents we talked to gave her a good report card on storm one. “This was more than I was expecting,” one woman said.

We joked with one Dorchester resident about Southie getting more snow than Dot. “You kidding me. We got way more snow than Southie. I don’t know what they are talking about,” the resident said.

The hills were alive in by Castle Island. Boston called a snow day before the storm even hit.

Some adults played hooky from work. “We didn’t shovel. We will figure out tomorrow how to get my car out. We’re going to let it melt a little bit. Have some drinks,” one woman said.

Mayor Wu’s office says they started with 520 pieces of equipment and then ramped up to 700 pieces as the snow predictions increased.

The residents Boston 25 News talked to did not have any complaints about the roads. “I think they look fine. Par for the course,” said one resident. “I think she is doing alright so far. It’s kinda early to tell,” another resident said.

Boston 25 also found this worksite -- with the best doggone boss in the city. “I have my companion with me. He is watching, supervising,” the woman said.

The city also told Boston 25 by the time they got the updated snow predictions it was too late to connect with parking garages and residents to prepare for the parking restrictions.
