BOSTON — David Ortiz threw out the first pitch at Monday night's Red Sox game against the New York Yankees, three months to the day after he was shot in the Dominican Republic.

Former teammate Jason Varitek caught the legend's first pitch before Ortiz gave a speech about his return to Fenway Park for the first time since shooting. He was received by thunderous applause.

Ortiz was hospitalized for nearly two months after being shot on June 9. Following his release from the hospital at the end of July, Ortiz has largely remained out of the public eye.
