Mitchell, selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, caught 32 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie year.
He fought through knee issues during training camp last season and was placed on Injured Reserve September 7. It was speculated that Mitchell might return, but he was unable to perform and didn't play again as the Patriots advanced to Super Bowl LII.
