BOSTON — He was the Game 3 hero but in the post-game news conference, some were wondering about Kyle Schwarber’s hometown. It was pretty obvious, though, when asked about it, that the outfielder doesn’t know much about Waltham.
The love affair between this team and the fans is reminiscent of the 2004 team that broke the curse. What’s not to love? They’ve been a fun group spreading joy all over New England and the Sox are embracing the fans right back.
If you notice in Monday night’s post-game press conference, Kyle Schwarber wore a Waltham t-shirt.
He’s become the city’s adopted son after Barstool podcaster Jared Carrabis dubbed him “Kyle from Waltham” because he seems like he could just be a regular local guy.
Schwarber’s on board.
“Everyone was asking me what’s Kyle from Waltham? I’m, like, what? I’m like, I’m from Middletown, Ohio,” Schwarber said.
“They’re going to have field day with that one. “Walt-ham,” they’re going to have a field day with that,” said Christian Arroyo.
“I guess my hometown is Waltham now. So go Hawks,” said Schwarber.
If you look at the Wikipedia page for Waltham, you’ll see Schwarber listed under the city’s “notable residents” just before Fred Smerals and Carol Spinney, the Waltham native known for playing Big Bird.
Not listed but also notable, Tony Massarotti of 98.5 The Sports Hub is also a Waltham native.
Schwarber is in good company.
