March 28 turned into a sad day for the sports world, as news broke that Joe Bellino died at the age of 81.
Bellino grew up in Winchester, Massachusetts, and played football at the Naval Academy, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1960 in a season where he rushed for 834 yards and 15 touchdowns, along with three touchdown catches.
The "Winchester Rifle" was the Naval Academy's first player to ever win the Heisman Trophy, and was a three-sport star at Winchester High School.
His number was retired after the 1960 season, and Bellino spent three years with the Boston Patriots after completing his four-year service obligation.
He then stayed in the Navy Reserves and became a captain, consistently making everybody in Massachusetts proud of everything he accomplished in his life..
