LEOMINSTER, Mass. — Our first Boston 25 High School Gameday game of the week for 2021 took place at Doyle Field in Leominster as the Leominster Blue Devils hosted the Fitchburg Red Raiders.
Those two teams are long-time Thanksgiving Day rivals but last year did not play on Thanksgiving because of COVID-19.
Their ‘Twin-Cities’ rivalry goes back for more than 100 years. Because they didn’t play last season, they decided to open up this season with their first game against each other.
Both current head coaches played in this rivalry when they were in school. Greg Graham is in his first year as the Fitchburg head football coach. Devin Gates is in his third season as head coach at Leominster, but adding some intrigue to this rivalry, Devin is from Fitchburg and played for the Red Raiders when he was in high school.
