FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots have their hands full Sunday night, as they host the undefeated Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
New England head coach Bill Belichick knows Kansas City will be a tough test.
“We need a lot of time to prepare for this team,” said Belichick. “They give you a lot of problems with their scheme, their players, they’re well coached as they always are with Andy (Reid). It’s easy to see why they are undefeated. This will be a big challenge this week.”
The standout for the 5-0 Chiefs has been rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who leads the NFL with fourteen touchdown passes while only throwing two interceptions.
Belichick has been impressed with Kansas City’s offense.
“Their quarterback is a problem, their backs are a problem, their receivers are a problem, they’re all a problem.” said Belichick.
Defensive End Trey Flowers will be at the forefront defending Mahomes. The four-year veteran from Arkansas understands what the defense needs to do to limit the Chiefs offense.
“We just want to keep him in the pocket,” said Flowers. “He can make a play either way he goes. Just try to contain him, get some pressure up the middle.”
Linebacker Dont’a Hightower also mentioned how defending Kansas City’s run-pass option is especially hard, and how Andy Reid uses a deep roster to disrupt defenses.
“Whether it's Hill, or Kelce, or Conley, or whoever it is. Usually it’s one on one. Those guys do a good job at that,” said Hightower.
