Another great match-up for our High School Gameday Game of the Week: the Mid Wach Division A title on the line Friday night with Algonquin taking on Wachusett Regional.
Both teams were 6-1 heading into the contest that featured a rivalry that goes back nearly 70 years.

In the 2nd quarter with no score, Coleman Hostage threw to the corner of the endzone to a diving Jason Levin for the first score of the game. 7-0 Algonquin.
Later in the 2nd, Tucker McDonald took it himself for the 2-yard touchdown, helping Wachusett cut the deficit to 7-6 at the half.
In the 3rd quarter, Aiden McGreary weaved in and out of traffic, breaking tackles for the touchdown to give Wachusett a 13-7 lead.
Algonquin faced a 4th down looking to take back the lead, but Hostage and Levin couldn’t connect for another touchdown.
In the 4th quarter, McDonald found Adam Bates for the touchdown to push the lead to two scores for Wachusett.

Later in the 4th, Wachusett’s defense came up big as the Mountaineers earned the impressive 21-7 win.
It was a hard-fought game between two very good teams. This rivalry is about as close as it gets as Algonquin holds a 1-game edge all-time with a 26-25-2 record. How’s that for close?
