BC debuts new baseball field on Brighton Campus

BRIGHTON — Boston College debuted its new baseball facility on the school's Brighton Campus Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles hosted Northeastern.

The inaugural game lasted more than five hours, with Northeastern winning 7-4 in 18 innings.

Before the game, BC's players were in a festive mood, taking batting practice and competing to see who would hit the ball over the fence at the new park.

BC's Jack Nelson delivered the first pitch to Northeastern's Charlie McConnell at 2:31pm. McConnell collected the first hit in the new park as he doubled to start the game. Northeastern's Nolan Lang scored the first run.

The move to Brighton Campus was necessitated by the construction of BC's new football fieldhouse, which is located on the former site of Shea Field and the Eagles softball field next to Alumni Stadium.

The BC softball team will also play on the Brighton Campus at a park adjoining the new baseball field. Both fields feature Astroturf, with the entire baseball field utilizing the synthetic surface.
