Responding to nearly 10,000 calls each year, the Waltham Fire Department puts their trucks, gear and equipment, and company through a lot. Fire Chief Paul Ciccone speaks very highly of the 166 Waltham firefighters, explaining “the toughest job we have is to pull them back. They’re aggressive. And they’re here because they want to do the job and do it well.”
The men and women are always dressed in their turnout gear when they leave the station whether it’s a medical call, fire, vehicle accident, or something else. They are eager to get the job done well and do not let anything stand in their way. As a result, their turnout gear goes through a lot. It is essential that it is always kept dry and clean for both safety and health reasons. The city of Waltham has recently stepped up to help keep their firefighters safer and healthier. Soon, each firefighter will be provided a second set of turnout gear and all six Waltham fire stations now have a heavy-duty turnout gear washer and dryer. They are one of the first cities, if not the first, in Metro Boston to have this equipment in every station. This will help the firefighters stay safe and healthy.
Thank you for all that you do to keep the community safe!
