WORCESTER — Despite Gov. Charlie Baker’s orders for all non-essential businesses to stay closed through May 18, a church in Worcester will have Sunday service.
At Adams Square Baptist Church the message is clear that church is essential.
The Pastor says extreme safety measures will be taken for Sunday’s service, which starts at 11 a.m.
The church paid $2,000 for a deep clean on Friday. Everyone’s temperature will be taken when they walk in and those in attendance have to wear a mask and gloves.
Families will be seated together but pews apart from other families.
Worcester city manager Joe Petty slammed the church during a news conference on Monday for disregarding the Governor’s order.
“Across Massachusetts, men and women of faith have chosen to follow the best advice of professionals and conduct worship services virtually,” Petty said. “This is the time we make a sacrifice for the good of our neighbors.”
Last week, the church held service for more than 50 people. The church capacity is 300.
