Woman pleads not guilty to charges in OUI crash that killed father of 3

READING, Mass. — A woman who allegedly caused the death of a 42-year-old man last year was indicted on a list of charges Tuesday.

Lynn DeWolfe, who police say has a history of drunk driving offenses, was driving impaired in August 2017 when she caused a chain reaction crash on Interstate 95 in Reading that killed motorcyclist Christopher Weisz.

DeWolfe, 51, of Tyngsborough, was arraigned on several charges in Middlesex Superior Court including motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence of drugs.

Reports from the incident show that Massachusetts State Police stopped DeWolfe before the crash after 911 calls reported her erratic driving.

The trooper, however, didn't catch on to her impaired behavior and let her go.

The crash that killed the father of three happened 20 minutes later.

"It's heartbreaking. All he wanted to do is go to work and my kids are without their father for the rest of their lives because of [her] actions," said Weisz's wife, Alexis.

Though she has some relief seeing DeWolfe charged, Weisz's questions still linger.

"His death could have been prevented," she said. "Lynn started the chain of events that day but she should've been stopped."

DeWolfe pleaded not guilty in court and is due back for a dangerousness hearing on July 25.

"The laws didn't protect Chris," Weisz said. "They don't protect any of us because it's not set up to protect innocent people."
