Woman allegedly pulled over for drinking coffee while driving

By Zach Dennis

ST. PAUL, Minn.  (Palm Beach Post Staff Writer) -- Don’t drink and drive … with coffee.

This is the lesson learned by one woman after she was pulled over Monday in St. Paul, Minn., KMSP reports. According to the woman, Lindsey Krieger, she thought the whole thing was a joke. Krieger told KMSP that she was getting on the highway when an officer signaled for her to pull over.

“(The officer) was like, ‘Do you know what you were doing wrong? Do you know why you were pulled over?’  I said, ‘no I have no idea what you’re talking about. ‘And finally after asking me a few more times she says, ‘Drinking coffee. It’s against the law to drink coffee while you’re driving,’” Krieger said.

According to Munchies, the officer isn't incorrect. The site found that Minnesota has generalized distracted driving laws, which include texting, making phone calls, and yes, even drinking coffee.

“Every car you drive in has cup holders in it,” Jon Cummings of Minnesotans for Safe Driving told KMSP. “You don’t have to go three blocks before you see somebody doing something really dangerous. Those are the people we should be focusing on.”

Krieger told KMSP that she still plans to drink coffee behind the wheel.
