WHITMAN, Mass. — A teacher at an elementary school in Whitman has been placed on paid administrative leave following an allegation of misconduct.
Superintendent Jeff Szymaniak said the principal of Duval Elementary School, Darlene Foley, was informed of the allegation of inappropriate contact between a teacher and a student Wednesday morning. She immediately contacted the central office and Whitman Police.
“The School Department and the Whitman Police Department work collaboratively to ensure a safe school culture and a supportive learning environment,” Szymaniak wrote.
The school district and Whitman Police are investigating the allegation.
A source told Boston 25 News the teacher placed on leave is the school’s music teacher.
Foley sent an email to families Wednesday evening stating the fourth and fifth grade chorus practice normally held before school has been canceled until further notice.
Boston 25 News reached out to Szymaniak for comment.
As of Thursday morning, the investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been filed.
