WESTFORD, Mass. — A revolutionary CT scanner for pets allowed a Westford veterinarian save a puppy.
An 8-week-old Chihuahua puppy arrived at the Westford Veterinary Emergency Referral Center several weeks ago with severe head trauma. Westford is one of the few veterinary clinics in the world with a Vimago 3D CT scanner. The robotic machine allows veterinarians to look at a dogs skull.

A vet discovered the puppy had a massive fracture, which wouldn't have been visible on conventional equipment. To prevent more brain swelling, vets gave the puppy Mannitol, which prevents pressure on the brain. The Chihuahua was sedated and wrapped in blankets to prevent further injury. She was monitored for a week, with a nurse by her side 24/7.
