Westborough teacher arrested, charged with DUI after crashing car

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Two half-empty containers of wine were found in a Westborough High School teacher's car after crashing into other vehicles, police say.

Mary Flanagan, 54, crossed the center lines after leaving Wayland High School Saturday evening and hit two other cars, according to police.

The teacher allegedly tried to continue driving before she was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence.

Flanagan allegedly told police she was at the pool and drank some wine so she could swim some more laps. Police said she smelled of alcohol and admitted to having two glasses of wine.

After allegedly failing several field sobriety tests, police say Flanagan registered a .17 on a Breathalyzer test.

Flanagan was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and having an open container of liquor while driving.

Superintendent Amber Bock says the school district is aware of the incident but cannot comment on personnel matters.
