'We didn't know': Peanut butter used to haze student with peanut allergy

MICHIGAN — Police in Michigan are investigating a serious act of hazing after a young man with a peanut allergy had peanut butter smeared on his face while he was passed out.

Teresa Seely, the mother of the now-former Central Michigan University student, says her son almost died. She posted a picture of her son on Facebook.

"This is a picture of what they did to him," Seely wrote. "He has a deadly peanut allergy and they rubbed peanut butter on his face while he was passed out. He could have been killed."

One frat member told WDIV in Detroit that it was all just a joke and that the group had no clue the victim had a peanut allergy.

"We were just trying to be funny, just guys hanging out, and we used peanut butter and put some on his face," the frat member said. "We didn't know he was allergic...we were not trying to harm him in any sense."

The fraternity involved is not recognized by Central Michigan University and was banned in 2011 for hazing.
