CHARLESTOWN, Mass. — A water main break in Charlestown has forced an exit ramp closure on I-93 North on Friday afternoon. The leak occurred at Cambridge Street in Charlestown just before noon, prompting officials to close Exit 28 on the northbound side of 93.

State Police tweeted just before 12:30 p.m. that they anticipated the closure to last for four hours while repairs were made to the water main. The road was reopened Friday afternoon.

Crews for Boston Water and Sewer Commission have begun excavating the area to determine the origin of the leak, according to a tweet from the organization. The 12-inch water main has been shut down in the meantime.
