ATLANTA — On Super Bowl Sunday, besides the game, the TV spots won't be the only thing people notice. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will also be a sight to see.
The stadium was opened only in 2017, with a massive retractable dome 300 feet above the field. The man behind the operation, General Manager Scott Jenkins, is pretty impressed with the way things are looking.
"First Super Bowl and we've only been open a year and a half!" he said.
As if the rectractable roof wasn't enough, the $1.6 billion stadium has two million square feet and then some. "[And] it's framed with the largest scoreboard in the world -- our halo video board, so it is a really cool looking building," said Jenkins.
There is a giant question though -- will the dome be open or not?
The decision to open the dome has not been made yet, and Jenkins said it will likely be decided much closer to the Super Bowl as it mainly depends on weather.
"Obviously if it is raining we don't want it open. Right now, weather looks pretty good Sunday," Jenkins added. "But we will wait until the day of to see what the NFL would like us to do."
