WAKEFIELD, Mass. — A fire captain from Wakefield has been placed on leave after he was accused of indecent assault.
Christopher Smith has been a member of the Wakefield Fire Department for 22 years and was promoted to captain about two years ago.
The Middlesex County District Attorney told Boston 25 News the alleged incident happened while he was off-duty in 2015, but the victim just came forward last year.
Specific details have not been released, by Smith is charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years old.
“He will remain on leave pending the outcome of this incident and a review by the Wakefield Fire Department and the Town of Wakefield. For legal reasons, I am prohibited from discussing this matter further,” Fire Chief Michael Sullivan said in a statement.
Smith is set to be arraigned on Wednesday. He has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the case and there will be a review by the fire department and the town of Wakefield.
