BOSTON — A place to rest is not taken for granted by “Boston Cares,” a volunteer organization that builds beds to be donated to people in need in eastern Massachusetts.
"There are thousands of children who don't have a bed to sleep in," said Patrice Keegan of Boston Cares.
Project Home Again is one of dozens of agencies that provide people in need with basic furnishings.
"It's a place where people who have been down on their luck can find comfort and dignity," said Nancy Kanell, the founder of Project Home Again.
Refugees, veterans, halfway house residents and domestic abuse victims are recipients of the beds.
In many cases, a new bed is the first thing the recipients own.
"People often say, where do you want to be in 10 years? I would love to be able to shut down. But that's unrealistic. The need just keeps growing," said Kanell.
BOSTON 25 employees helped build beds which will be donated to foster families working with the Department of Children and Families.
