BOSTON — A sandwich shop in Boston is under scrutiny after a video posted to Facebook recently showed what appears to be rats running across the floor.
The Subway shop in question is located on Summer Street, and health inspectors responded right away.
“We saw it, became aware of where the restaurant was, and we immediately sent inspectors out,” Commissioner William Christopher of the Boston Inspectional Services Department said.
The man who posted the video said he was outside the restaurant when he noticed the rats.
The inspection department, however, said the video can’t be used as proof because it can’t be verified.
“There were violations written but they weren’t based on what we saw in the video they’re based on what our inspectors saw out in the field,” Christopher said.
Those violations do include signs of rodent droppings and roach activity, but only in the basement. The restaurant was ordered to clean up and hire a pest control company.
“Yeah - I’d probably give it a few weeks to make sure they stay open and stay good, but, yes, I’d come back here in the future,” one potential customer said.
