Two arrested after Woburn shooting leaves one dead Saturday night

WOBURN, Mass. — Like every other restaurant struggling through the pandemic, Jake n JOES in Woburn has seen better times. But the Mishawum Road establishment might well consider this past Saturday night the absolute worst of times.

About 9 p.m., the Jake n JOES parking lot was hit with a fusillade of bullets, several of which struck and killed a possible target, 26-year-old Lloyd Borgella of Roslindale, as he left the restaurant.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said several witnesses reported two or more men fled the area in a vehicle immediately after the shooting. That vehicle crashed about an eighth of a mile away, in the area of New Boston Street, with the suspects running from the scene. Police caught up with them a short time later.

“Pauliasky Jean Francois, 34, of Plymouth and Eric Mills, 29, of Hyde Park were located close to the intersection of I-95, which is about a half-mile from where the car had crashed,” DA Ryan said.

The two will be arraigned Monday on murder charges, as well as charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Ryan said that firearm has not yet been found, though detectives were in the neighborhood of the car crash Sunday, combing through backyard brush for something.

“It was very foggy and wet last night,” DA Ryan said. “We’re obviously just out there looking through the area for various things.”

It was also fairly mild Saturday night with temperatures in the 40s. That meant a healthy number of patrons were at Jake n JOES when the gunfire erupted. Fortunately, nobody else was hurt.

Boston 25 News talked by phone with the Jake n JOES’ manager. He said because the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, the restaurant would hold off on any comments for now.

DA Ryan said it’s unknown the relationship between the suspects and Mr. Borgella or whether there even was a relationship. But Woburn Police Chief Robert Rufo said he believes there is no remaining danger to the public. He also noted that it was Woburn’s first murder in about 10 years.
