CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Police have arrested a Wyoming man after his girlfriend’s toddler son was found dead in a Cheyenne dumpster.
According to The Associated Press, Cheyenne police initially arrested 27-year-old Wyatt Lamb on warrants unrelated to the death of 2-year-old Athian Rivera, whose body was found Friday afternoon in a dumpster on Desmet Drive. Investigators have since “forwarded an affidavit of probable cause to the Laramie County District Attorney supporting additional charges of aggravated child abuse and murder” in the case, police said in a Facebook post Tuesday.
Rivera was first reported missing about 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle. Cheyenne police, as well as a K-9 unit and crews from other local and state agencies, began searching for the child on Desmet Drive, where he was last seen, the newspaper reported. Authorities found the body in a dumpster on the same street, officials said.
The AP reported that Lamb had been in a relationship with Rivera’s mother, according to her Facebook page.
Police said the investigation into the child’s death is ongoing.
