Ukrainian church in Chicago vandalized, police say

CHICAGO — A Ukrainian church in Chicago was vandalized early Saturday, authorities said.

According to the Chicago Police Department, a custodial worker at Holy Protection Parish of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine reported a break-in at about 1:08 a.m. CST, WGN-TV reported.

The church is part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate, according to WLS-TV.

Police said thieves broke a window on the side of the church, the television station reported. Video surveillance showed a man taking several items from the church.

Police did not reveal what the items were or how much was taken from the church, WGN reported.

An arrest was made later in the morning, WLS reported, adding that charges are still pending.
