NORWALK, Conn. — Two Norwalk police officers were arrested Tuesday for an October incident where they were found together in a hotel room while on duty.
Officer Michael Dimeglio, an 8-year veteran of the department, and Officer Sara Laudano, a five-year member, turned themselves in on Tuesday, police said.
The two were working Oct. 10, when at 12:47 a.m. dispatch was unable to get hold of Laudano through her radio and cell phone. The tracking system on her car showed she was at the Even Hotel.
An officer was sent there. He found Laudano and Dimeglio in a room together and reported that they were “not in a condition to respond to calls for service.” They were relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave. After an initial investigation, Chief Thomas Kulhawik consulted with State Attorney Paul Ferencek, who determined their conduct was beyond departmental policy violations and a criminal investigation was launched. Arrest warrants were issued Tuesday.
Both were arrested and charged with larceny and reckless endangerment. Laudano was also charged with risk of injury to a child.
“While I am appalled at the behavior and conduct that was exhibited by these officers while in an on-duty capacity, I am proud of the professional manner in which the patrol supervisors of this department initiated this complaint and the subsequent criminal investigation conducted by the Detective Division supervisors,” Kulhawik said in a statement. “We have a high expectation of our officers. We demand this, as does our community who place a great deal of trust in them. Intentional conduct which violates that trust and goes against the mission and values of this department will not be tolerated.”
