The 2020 presidential campaign will get a restart of sorts on Saturday when President Donald Trump holds a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The rally, which has become a flashpoint for those who say the campaign is endangering lives by holding a large gathering as the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the United States, will see 19,000 people gather in a civic center in downtown Tulsa.
According to the Trump campaign, more than 1 million people requested tickets to the event.
Health officials have warned the campaign that with so many people in such close quarters there is a significant risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus.
Rallygoers have been asked to sign waivers saying that if they contract the COVID-19 virus they will not hold Trump, his campaign or the Bank of Oklahoma Center liable.
Trump-Pence 2020 Campaign Manager Brad Parscale tweeted on Monday that the campaign will check the temperature of everyone who enters the venue, in addition to providing everyone with a mask and giving out hand sanitizer. However, Parscale said that rallygoers will not be required to wear a mask.
According to the Bank of Oklahoma Center, the venue is taking “extra precautions to increase sanitation efforts for this event and other events moving forward. Employee temperature screenings and necessary personal protective equipment for employees will be enforced. Additional hand sanitizer stations and increased cleaning of high-touch areas will also be conducted.”
