Joseph Siravo has died at the age of 64.
The actor is best known for his role as Tony Soprano’s father, Giovanni Frances “Johnny Boy” Soprano, in flashbacks on the HBO series “The Sopranos,” NJ.com reported.
Siravo also portrayed John Gotti in “The Wannabe” and Vinnie Taglialucci in “Carlito’s Way,” and played a member of the Genovese crime family in a national tour of “Jersey Boys.” He also appeared in “The Light in the Piazza” and “Oslo” on Broadway, NJ.com reported.
Siravo, who was originally from Washington, D.C., had been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2017, then was diagnosed with colon cancer and had part of his colon removed.
His daughter, Allegra Okarmus, said of her father’s death, “I was by his side when my dear father passed away this morning, peacefully, in his beloved Treehouse,” BBC News reported.
His co-stars, friends and family members remembered the actor on social media.

The Cicala family is saddened to learn of the passing of Joe Siravo. You may know him as “Johnny boy” Soprano or Vinny Taglialucci from Carlito’s Way but to us he was family. He was my father’s closest friend, & my sister’s godfather. pic.twitter.com/em5iVSkfLL
