DANA POINT, Calif. — That was a close call.
A Tesla driver in California accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brakes, sending the vehicle onto the rocks that overlook Dana Point Harbor, authorities said.
A call was made around 8:30 a.m. PDT on Thursday to recover the car, which was perched on a rocky embankment, The Orange County Register reported.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, officials used a water rescue boat to be prepared in case the car tipped forward into the channel, spokesperson Carrie Braun told the newspaper.
“Close call in the harbor this morning when a driver mistakenly accelerated, rather than applying the brakes while parking,” the sheriff’s department wrote in an Instagram post.
There is no boundary between the parking area and the rocks, according to the Register.
The driver was not injured and the car was safely returned to the parking area, the newspaper reported.
