An Oregon meat processing company has issued a recall of more than 28,000 pounds of ground beef because of concerns that the meat may contain E. coli.
Interstate Meat Dist. Inc. initiated the recall on Thursday.
The 28,356 pounds of ground beef products were processed on Dec. 20, 2021, and all have the establishment number “EST. 965″ inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed next to the timestamp and “use by” or “freeze by” date.
The items were shipped to retail locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, and were sold at Albertson, Walmart, Kroger and WinCo chains.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture warns consumers not to eat the meat, remove it from the refrigerator or freezer, and dispose of it. The department determined the results were actionable.
The E. coli was found through a third-party random inspection.
E. Coli is a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and dehydration. It can also cause kidney failure and can lead to death. Symptoms of an E. coli infection generally appear between two and eight days after a person has been exposed to E. coli.
