Recall alert: Select Jergens products possibly contaminated with bacteria

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Ka0 USA Inc. has voluntarily recalled select units of Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer due to potential bacterial contamination.

According to the recall notice, Pluralibacter gergoviae is a bacterium which typically poses little medical risk to healthy people, but those with certain health problems such as weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infections.

Although the investigation into the scope of the issue remains active, Cincinnati-based Kao USA took the precautionary step of issuing a voluntary recall and removing the product in question from warehouses, working with retailers to ensure the product is removed from store shelves and proactively notifying consumers.

The affected products are currently limited to the specific lots of 3-ounce and 10-ounce containers of the moisturizer, manufactured between Oct. 1, 2021, and Oct. 18, 2021.

“Kao USA Inc. will inform regulatory authorities of the issue, and we are working with our partners on improved cleaning and sanitization practices so that similar issues can be prevented in the future,” the company stated.
