A Florida-based food producer is recalling green beans sold at store chains nationwide over the possibility that the 1-pound bags had been contaminated with listeria.
In a news release, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday that Alpine Fresh, Inc. of Doral, is voluntarily recalling its packages of “Hippie Organics” French Beans from Lot #313-626.
The beans were sold at Whole Foods, Aldi and LIDL outlets, the FDA stated. The brand was sold at Aldi stores in Florida, while Whole Foods stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland sold the items. LIDL retail stores sold the product in Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeria is an organism that can cause serious illness and sometimes death in young children, the elderly or others with weakened immune systems.
According to the news release, the FDA said that no illnesses have been reported.
Consumers who purchased the product are urged to return them to the retail store where it was purchased for a full refund, the FDA said. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 866-827-3362.
