MALIBU, Calif. — Actor Cary Elwes is recovering at home after a wildlife encounter he wishes had only involved a Rodent Of Unusual Size.
“The Princess Bride” star shared via social media Monday afternoon that he was bitten by a rattlesnake in Malibu over the weekend.
“Bit not by a ROUS but a rattlesnake,” Elwes, 59, joked in his posts, referencing the rat-like creatures featured in the 1987 Rob Reiner film.
“Grateful to the staff of Malibu Urgent Care, LA County Fire Dept. and the staff and medical professionals at @UCLAHealth for their great care,” he added.
Other film credits for the British-born Elwes include, but are certainly not limited to, “Glory,” “Twister,” “Kiss the Girls,” “Liar Liar” and “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.”
Paramedics were sent to a Pacific Coast Highway home just before 3 p.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed to KABC-TV.
According to “Today,” Elwes’ Hollywood chums wished him a speedy recovery in the posts’ comments.
“Wow that is ugly man. Hope you recover soon,” musician Sean Ono Lennon wrote, while actress Lea Thompson wrote, “Oh dear. Omg. How???? Please tell so as not to happen to me!!! Get welll soo (sic) friend.”
For the record, Elwes was doing yard work when he encountered the venomous snake, KABC-TV confirmed.
“Ouuuuuuuch!” wrote former “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert.
