The comedian’s wife, Laura Richards, said in a statement that the comedian was taken off life support after he suffered severe brain injuries from the March 27 crash, the BBC reported.

“It was a miracle that he arrived at the hospital alive,” she wrote. “Since then, the doctors and nurses have been incredible and have kept him in a stable and sedated condition.”

Gareth Richards was best known for his work with Frank Skinner according to Deadline. The pair co-hosted a show on Absolute Radio between 2009 and 2011, the entertainment news website reported.

Skinner’s radio show on Sunday was a tribute to his friend.

“There’s been lots of beautiful messages about Gareth and his family have been very kind to us and kept us informed about the details of his struggle but look, Gareth didn’t make it,” Skinner said, according to Deadline. “Gareth didn’t make it and we will miss him intensely.”

Richards began his comedy career in 2004 and was a finalist in the Hackney Empire new act of the year competition three years later, according to The Guardian. He was also the runner up that same year in the Amused Moose Laugh-Off, the news outlet reported.
