CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Pa. — Police have arrested a man they say killed his girlfriend and then tried to decapitate her.
Officers were initially called to a home in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, for a domestic dispute, but there was no answer from the ground floor apartment when they knocked, WTXF reported.
When they didn’t get a response at the door, one of the officers at the scene looked through a side window and saw a man attempting to behead a woman’s body, WCAU reported. Investigators said the suspect was using a large knife to try to dismember the victim, WCAU reported.
Police arrested Nicholas Scurria and said they found multiple weapons inside the apartment, including a machete, KYW-TV reported.
Police told WCAU the victim was dead when the officer saw the attempted beheading, and that the victim had severe trauma to her head and neck, but could not say whether the machete was the murder weapon.
The victim has not been identified.
The officers who responded to the scene are being offered counseling, WCAU reported.
