NEW IBERIA, La. — A cashier at a Louisiana convenience store is accused of striking an unruly customer two times in the head with a full bottle of wine.
Saleh A. Ahmed, 45, of New Iberia, faces charges of aggravated second-degree battery, New Iberia Police Sgt. Daesha Hughes told KFLY. He is being held in the Iberia Parish Jail, the television station reported.
According to investigators, on Wednesday the victim was asked to count the money that was being handed over to the cashier, KATC reported. The victim allegedly became angry and punched a plexiglass divider above the cash register, according to the television station.
Ahmed then came from behind the counter and struck the victim in the head twice, according to a Facebook video taken by a bystander that showed the alleged encounter. The bottle shattered on the victim’s head with the second blow, The Daily Iberian reported.
Hughes said the victim was taken to an area hospital and treated for his injuries, KFLY reported.
The victim was not arrested, KATC reported. The owner of the gas station declined to file charges, police said.
