DETROIT — Friday was a full day for musician Jack White. He released a new album, performed the national anthem for the Detroit Tigers on Opening Day, and later proposed to -- and then married -- his girlfriend on stage during a concert in Detroit.
White, 46, who was born in Detroit, performed at the Masonic Temple Theatre in his hometown to kick off his Supply Chain Issues Tour, the Detroit Free Press reported. At the end of the show, he proposed to his girlfriend, musician Olivia Jean, the newspaper reported. Jean’s band opened Friday’s show for White, WXYZ-TV reported.
White proposed to Jean as the coupled performed a duet of The White Stripes’ 2001 hit “Hotel Yorba,” The Detroit News reported.

“I’ve got a little question for you, Olivia Jean,” White, best known as the singer and lead guitarist of The White Stripes, asked his girlfriend. “Will you marry me?”
White presented Jean with a ring, and when she said yes, White eased into the next line of the song: “Let’s get married,” the newspaper reported.
“Jack White just proposed to his girlfriend, Olivia Jean, on stage at the Masonic Temple during the opening night of his Supply Chain Issues tour,” Adam Graham of the Detroit News tweeted. “He did it during ‘Hotel Yorba.’ She said yes, and he rolled right into the ‘let’s get married’ line. Crowd went crazy.”
While White does not allow cellphones at his show, an enterprising fan still managed to catch the proposal on a cellphone video by a fan, who posted it to YouTube.
Returning for the encore, White had another surprise for the audience. He tied the knot onstage with Jean in a ceremony officiated by Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank, the Free Press reported. The couple’s respective bass players were the best man and maid of honor, while members of their families, including White’s mother, Teresa Gillis, stood as witnesses, according to the newspaper. Jean’s father also attended.
The fan who filmed the proposal also recorded the ceremony and posted it on YouTube.
White is a graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, while Jean is also a Detroit native, MLive reported.
White released his latest album, “Fear Of The Dawn,” on Friday.
Until Friday, White and Jean’s relationship had been a secret, and it is unclear how long they have been dating, New Musical Express reported. They have been in a working relationship since 2009.
It is the third marriage for White, who was married to White Stripes bandmate Meg White from 1996 to 2000 and model-singer Karen Elston from 2005 to 2013, the entertainment website reported.
