LEXINGTON, Ky. — A video posted to Twitter shows the shocking moment inside an ice rink when an ice resurfacing machine exploded while skaters were on the ice.
Employees were replacing a propane tank on the ice resurfacing machine at the Lexington Ice Center in Lexington, Kentucky, Saturday when a leak caused the explosion, WKYT reported. One of the business’ owners, David Christopher, told the station nobody was injured, and there was no damage caused by the explosion.
In the video, you can see the blast from the explosion as well as the orange flash of fire.
The Lexington Ice Center had a more serious fire in July 2021, which was ruled an accident, WDKY reported. “We know we were spared for a reason. God gave us this facility years ago, and we’re glad we still have it,” Christopher told WDKY.
The ice rink is now back open and operating normally, WKYT reported.
Editor’s note: A prior version of this article identified the ice resurfacing device as a Zamboni but it was not made by that company.
