Former Patriots’ WR David Patten dies in motorcycle crash

Three-time Super Bowl champion and wide receiver for the New England Patriots, David Patten, died Thursday in a motorcycle crash, multiple media outlets are reporting.

He was 47, ESPN reported.

His death has been confirmed by his agent, Sam Gordon of G2 Sports Management, the NFL reported.

In addition to his winning years with the Patriots, Patten played with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, the Washington Football Team and the New Orleans Saints.

He was an undrafted free agent with the Giants in 1997, starting his 12-season career.

While a Patriot during the 2001 to 2004 seasons, Patten had 44 starts in 54 regular-season games. He also had 165 catches for 2,513 yards and 16 touchdowns.

He was the receiver that caught Tom Brady’s first Super Bowl touchdown, according to NFL.com. In that game, Super Bowl XXXVI, the Patriots went on to win 20-17 over the Los Angeles Rams.

Overall, he had 324 catches with 4,715 yards and 24 touchdowns over his career, which ended in 2008, ESPN reported.
