Couple put on house arrest, refused to sign self-isolation order after positive COVID-19 test

RADCLIFF, Ky. — A woman in Kentucky tested positive for COVID-19, but she and her husband refused to sign a self-isolation order. Now the couple has been placed under house arrest.

Elizabeth Linscott said she took the test because she wanted to visit her grandparents. She was showing no symptoms, WAVE reported.

The test, however, came back positive the next day. She was emailed a form by the Lincoln Trail District Health Department that she would check in daily, self-isolate and tell officials if she had to go to the hospital for treatment, The Associated Press reported.

The test was given on July 11.

The AP reported that she refused to sign the form because of the sentence that read: “I will not travel by any public, commercial or health care conveyance such as ambulance, bus, taxi, airplane, train or boat without the prior approval of the Department of Public Health.”

Linscott said she could not comply with having to call the health department if she had an emergency or some other necessity that could not wait in her opinion, the AP reported.

Linscott told WAVE that after she said no to signing the document, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department arrived at her home.

Isaiah Linscott told WAVE, “I open up the door and there’s like eight different people. Five different cars and I’m like what the heck’s going on? This guy’s in a suit with a mask. It’s the health department guy and he has three different papers for us. for me, her and my daughter.”

On July 16, she and her husband were put on house arrest and were told to wear ankle monitors.

Linscott said she did not say no to self-quarantining, she just refused to sign the document due to its wording, WAVE reported.
