The United States passed another grim milestone Wednesday, as COVID-19 deaths topped 750,000 people.
According to the latest figures in John Hopkins University’s database, the death toll in the U.S. stood at 750,410 on Wednesday night.
That figure is larger than the populations of Alaska, Vermont or Wyoming, The Washington Post reported. That figure is also larger than the District of Columbia, the newspaper reported.
California, Texas, Florida and New York remain the hardest-hit states in terms of COVID-19 deaths.
California has reported 72,279 deaths, or 183 per 100,000 people. Texas is next with 71,537 deaths, or 247 per 100,000 people. Florida has reported 59,670 deaths since the pandemic started, while New York’s total is 56,579.
