Child survives Michigan plane crash that killed 4 adults

BEAVER ISLAND, Mich. — Four people died in a commuter plane crash on Lake Michigan’s Beaver Island on Saturday, but an 11-year-old girl survived, local media outlets reported.

According to The Petoskey News-Review, the pilot and three adult passengers aboard the Island Airways 1:30 p.m. flight died in the crash, including realtor Mike Perdue and both Kate Leese and Adam Kendall, newcomers to the island who were planning a vineyard in the area. Two dogs also died.

Perdue’s child, whose name has not been released publicly, survived the crash but was airlifted to an area hospital with severe injuries, the newspaper reported.

The pilot killed in the crash has not been publicly identified either.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the twin-engine Britten-Norman plane was flying from Charlevoix on Michigan’s lower peninsula when the crash occurred.

The plane was flying into Welke Airport when it crashed, WWTV reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to MLive.com that an 11-year-old girl and an adult male were taken to McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey by helicopter.

The man did not survive, WWTV reported.
