NASHVILLE — Country music’s biggest stars shone brightly Wednesday night, despite the typical fanfare associated with the annual CMT Music Awards shifting to a coronavirus-forced virtual format.

Originally slated to air in June, the 2020 spectacular instead offered virtual performances from venues across Nashville, featuring the likes of Maren Morris, Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Gabby Barrett, Little Big Town and Sam Hunt, US Weekly reported.

The entirely fan-voted show was co-hosted by Ashley McBryde, Kane Brown and Sarah Hyland and honored crossover performances with first-time nods for Gwen Stefani, Halsey and Marshmello, ET reported.
Combs, Hunt, Dan + Shay and Thomas Rhett led the nominations. Other artists receiving multiple nominations included Carrie Underwood, whose 20 wins to date make her the most-awarded artist in CMT Music Awards history, as well as Blanco Brown, Barrett, Kane Brown, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Old Dominion and The Chicks, who have earned their first CMT nomination since 2007, ET reported.
