HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Holy auto shop, Batman -- the showroom of the business that built the Batmobile and other iconic entertainment cars is for sale.
The home of Barris Kustom Industries -- which created the wheels for the Caped Crusaders, along with the Munster Koach and many other custom cars -- is on the block, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The 10,000-square-foot commercial property, situated on an 18,000-square-foot corner lot in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles County, is being offered for $3.995 million, the newspaper reported.

The lot includes the showroom that still houses one of the Batmobiles, and the garages where the Barris brothers -- George and Sam -- did custom body work for celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Elton John and Cassandra Peterson, best known for her character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the Los Angeles Times reported. “Kustom kolors” were also applied by George Barris to cars driven by actors James Dean and John Wayne, and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, according to the newspaper.
“George and Sam were the shop,” Ken Gross, a hot rod historian, told the Los Angeles Times. “That’s who you went to. They were very responsible for the whole custom car scene.”
The Barris brothers converted a 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura concept car into the Batmobile, according to The New York Times. George Barris later sold the original model for $4.6 million at a 2013 auction, CNN reported.
George Barris later melded three Model T bodies into the Munster Koach, turned a gold-plated coffin into the Munsters’ Drag-U-La, and built vehicles for “The Beverly Hillbillies” and “My Mother the Car,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
Geore Barris died in 2015.
