According to WLWT, the calf, named Sammie, was born shortly after 11 a.m. Dec. 9 to mother Digi, 9, and father Enzi, 10.

“The calf was already fully standing and nursing shortly after birth,” the zoo wrote in a news release Tuesday. “The care team was also delighted to observe the calf testing out her little ‘bunny hopping’ and ‘running’ (or ‘zoomies’) skills later that day.”

The zoo added that “guests won’t be able to view Digi and her new calf yet, as the giraffes are inside their spacious winter facility until spring.”

News of Sammie’s birth comes just four months after female giraffe Jana welcomed a daughter, Schaefer, and nearly six months after Zuri welcomed a son, Ralph, according to the news release. Enzi also fathered the two calves, the zoo said.
