MARION, Ark. — Rapper Bankroll Freddie was arrested by Arkansas State Police on federal gun and drug charges on Thursday and was being turned over to the FBI, authorities said Friday.
The 27-year-old Conway, Arkansas, native, whose offstage name is Freddie Demarus Gladney, is charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, resisting arrest and a felony drug charge, according to Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office online booking records. Gladney was also charged with speeding, failure to wear a seat belt and another drug possession charge, online records show.
Arkansas State Police stopped Gladney for a speeding violation at around 6:30 p.m. CDT Thursday on Interstate 55 in Marion, about 20 miles west of Memphis, Tennessee, state police spokesperson Bill Sadler told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Troopers searching Gladney’s pickup recovered a gun, about 21 pounds of marijuana and 171 grams of promethazine, Sadler told the newspaper. Promethazine is a prescription narcotic that can be found in syrup form and is sometimes mixed with soda or alcohol to create “lean” or “purple drank,” the Democrat-Gazette reported.
The rapper released the single “Picking Sides” featuring Icewear Vezzo last week and teased that his From Trap to Rap 2 album will be released on April 22, according to Billboard.
Gladney joined the Quality Control team in 2019 after releasing his single “Drip Like This,” Billboard reported. His 2020 album, “From Trap to Rap,” featured Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, Moneybagg Yo and Young Dolph. He also collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on the 2021 single, “Pop It,” from the “Big Bank” album, the music website reported.
