Actor Amanda Bynes is seeking an end to her conservatorship after more than eight years, according to multiple reports.
The 35-year-old former Nickelodeon star filed a petition Wednesday to terminate the conservatorship of her person and her estate, the Los Angeles Times reported. Her attorney, David A. Esquibias, confirmed his client’s decision Friday to People.
“She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary,” Esquibias told the magazine.

Bynes was placed under a conservatorship in 2013 after being hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold following reports that she started a small fire in a stranger’s driveway in Thousand Oaks, the Times and Page Six reported. The conservatorship gave her mother, Lynn Bynes, control of her personal, medical and financial affairs, according to Page Six. Over the years, she struggled with mental health and drug-related issues, the Times reported.

She has since gotten sober, according to the newspaper. Last year, Esquibias told People that Bynes was “doing great.”
“She lives by the beach, attends school and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes,” he said, according to the magazine.
A hearing in Bynes’ case is scheduled for March 22, Page Six reported.
